Twilight by Anna Deavere Smith is a play taking play in Los Angeles, California during the Rodney King trial. Smith writes in the perspective of different individuals and talks about their thoughts and experiences during the violent aftermath of the 1992 Rodney King trial. This play shows the many opinions of not only the people living in Los Angeles at the time but helps bring to the surface the violent Police brutality that was happening not only to people like Rodney King but to a lot of other people of color as well. This play impacted me on a very emotion level because of the violence it brought up. I continued to do my own research and upon discovering the hate I was really glad to hear about the support and change it brought to Los Angeles. Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck remarked "[Rodney King's] legacy should not be the struggles and troubles of his personal life but the immensely positive change his existence brought on this city and it's police department."
